Relax Your Mind, Relax Your Hair...

Hello and how's your hair today? The weather in England has just been terrible, we had a meager amount of snow, and the temperature has just been 4 to -5 degrees. I actually makes me want to cry because you know what come with cold weather? HAIR BREAKAGE.

Yes that's right you read correctly, cold weather is just a little bit less than good for your hair. In fact, it can break if exposed to too much heat (from straighteners) and then extreme cold (around 0 degrees C) especially if your hard is not really soft - brittle hair will suffer the most damage. So my topic today is PERMS (Dun Dun Duuuuuuuun). There are quite a few types and they all have different strengths and depending on your hair texture and how straight you want it to be afterward, you need different ones (okay, that was kind of obvious).

Texturizers
These are a less strong version of perms/relaxers. They make your hair (if you have Afro-Caribbean hair) softer, and if you have hair typical of Britons or Asians, then slightly straighter (no matter how unruly or curly your hair is). They do a lot less damage to your hair than perms do, and is easier on the scalp.

Perms
This is a much stronger version of a  texturizer, and as a result does a a lot more damage. However if it turns out right, your hair will be pin straight and won't go curly when it's humid or even in rain. You've got to make sure that your hair will be able to handle the chemical process as if it's already weak and breaking, perming will make it worse and possibly make your hair fall out - and no one wants to be bald after a full head of hair :| Relaxers are the same as perms.

Brazilian Perm
This is even stronger and contrary to popular belief actually protects the hair (coats it in a layer of keratin) and allows it to retain it's natural movement and body without damaging and making it brittle. However it's been banned in some parts of the USA as it gives off a gas called formaldehyde which is dangerous and at high levels toxic. This won't affect costumers but stylists who inhale the gas after long periods of time and so it's difficult to find a salon that does the treatment  It's keratin based and is very effective and lasts for at least 4 - 6 weeks.

I was seriously thinking of getting my hair relaxed or something but all my friends said they like my naturally curly hair. Don't do it if you have doubts because once you do it... there's no turning back!

Done Some More Work...

Hello and how's your hair today? I've done some more work and since the English Prom post was so popular, I've extended it and added more styles. I also went to bed at 12 am doing a philosophy essay and drank coffee for the first time to keep myself awake - with a bottle of Coca Cola in the afternoon - and the crash and burn was just terrific. Never have I felt so high... and so low all the space of a couple of hours ever. Just don't try it if you're new to the business, I warned you.

Today's post is about hair dye! I was inspired by my nails (I think I might do a nail post one day of all my creations), and even though I've never dyed my hair before, I've always wanted to do it - my parents won't allow me - and I have gone and researched hair dye for those of us who can.

There are lots of different styles that you can do, and  I'll go through them so you can see what would suit you as an individual.

Highlights and Lowlights:

Highlights are marvelous things, if you don't want to go 'Full Monty' and dye everything, then you can dye strands/parts. If you have pixie short hair I think it looks especially nice. My primary school teacher had short light brown hair, but had highlights ranging from light cream to dark brown and she looked so pretty :).

I think that if you have shoulder length or a bob, it won't really suit because in my opinion that length is supposed to be a sleek block colour. Also, don't just dye it random colours - if you have blonde hair, go for shades of brown... not purple or red. If you have black hair, then you can go for purple or red... not blonde.

Dip Dying:

Dip dying has been the rage of summer 2012 and to be honest, it looks quite nice... on some people... with some certain colour combinations.  For example, if you have wood brown hair, dying it bright pink is just not the way forward. However black or blonde would suit it so much better and would look so much nicer. I reckon that people with blonde hair can get away with almost any colour they want because it just suits (lucky them) and white/cream/blonde/yellow (yes I saw a lady with yellow hair once, it looked like Goldilocks) is just an easily match able colour. Just get advice first because you don't want to look like you had an accident with Crayola.

(This isn't fully dip dyed, but I think it looks so pretty)

Complete Dyeing

Change is good, and a new look is always fab. Unless it goes wrong, then you've got problems. However, you shouldn't dye your hair too much. I knew of a girl who dyed her hair so much, she had a new colour every week and her hair started falling out She had a bald patch in the middle of her head and her hair is very thin and weak. Moral? Don't dye your hair too much. And if you're ginger, please don't dye your hair, I looovvee ginger hair!! I have found that ginger people have really nice thick healthy hair more often than not and I just think its soooo beautiful  :)

Love y'all

Grow Like Magic...

Hi and how's your hair today? After some extensive research, I've found some interesting ways to make your hair grow - by the end of the year we should all be Rapunzels.

Hair Massages:
I've heard (read) that massaging your scalp can increase the rate at which your hair grows by 3/4 of an inch per year! Yeah, it isn't a lot, but yes. There are many reasons why, but it has something to do with natural hair oil, and stimulating the scalp can increase the rate at which the hair is pushed out or something... But every little helps.

Sea Kelp Supplements:
Lots of people claim this makes your hair stronger, and personally I haven't tried... I've looked around, and apparently it makes your hair stronger and therefore more resistant to split ends. This then means you don't have to cut your hair as often... aka longer hair, faster!

Protein:
Eating a BALANCED amount of protein can make your hair grow, since your hair is largely made from protein. Note how I've capitalized the word BALANCED. Remember to eat other vitamins (such as zinc and iron and calcium - biology student right here) because I can't be running away from nobody's mama, asking me why their child is sick. Back to topic, since your hair is made from protein, it's good to give your body what it needs to literally make your hair grow.

Stress and Sleep:
Stress can make your hair look dull, unhealthy, break, and not grow. One of the ways to combat this is to get enough sleep. No matter how young you are, you can get those grey hairs... and that's just awkward.

Styling and Brushing:
I know we all want to look hot, but too much heat and overuse of chemicals (perm, hair dye) can be destructive. Don't use rubber hair bands, because that can rip your hair at the root - even in the middle. Oh and don't brush your hair excessively, as this can actually strip your hair strands of the nutrients that surround it and pull out hair hair at the roots.

Hope this helps, the most important thing to take is away is that you must be patient. Don't expect it to work overnight but over a few months, and be consistent!

Oh yeah, and I did my nails :) WHO IS THIS???? (Brits should know this)

ITS MR TICKLE :DDDDDDDDDD

That Fever...

Hello and how's your hair today? I've been terribly ill, but I'm proud to say I'm still rocking the great hair! (even though I literally looked like a zombie.) I was ill for the whole weekend, but I'd done all my homework already and was able to completely go out of it. To be honest, I should never be sick again until this time next year after the intensity of that illness. Anyway, back to hair...

Being inspired to my non-adventurous misadventures, I decided to a post on styles that literally take 30 seconds - 5 minutes for those times when you can't be bothered, when you're sick, or when you're in a hurry. Stylish and cute - but fast ;)

Trust me when I tell you I've had plenty of those days, but doesn't everyone? I really like the last one because it's so simple but you can look absolutely stunning with minimum effort. I've taken to straightening my hair even less nowadays, because let's face it - who wants to be bald by the time they reach 20? Also trying to grow my hair out really long down to my waist (pray for me guys) so next week's post will be on hair growing tips. From healthy eating to miraculous, old time bubbly concoctions, I'm gonna make my hair GROW.

Prom Again

Hello and how's your hair today? Obviously this being England, it's impossible to avoid rain and ruin your beautiful hairstyle - especially in the cold autumn/winter months. I have resorted to carrying an umbrella permanently in my bag (even though it takes up more room in there), and am now having to shove my school books in even harder. What's even worse? When your friend (who happens to be a boy with short hair that does not need protection from the rain) runs off with your brolly. What is life.

Anyway, that aside, since my last blog about it was so popular, I've decided to to talk about prom again. Yes it's coming up to that time for the American's (English people only have prom once a year in the summer), and I've got some really nice styles - you can wear them to parties too.

If you can do any of these styles, then you deserve a round of applause. Seriously. I applaud you. I did get my rabbits by the way here's a pic :D

Love them so much <3 3="3" actually="actually" but="but" nbsp="nbsp" one="one" other="other" p="p" s="s" somewhere.="somewhere." the="the" there="there" went="went">

Going to do another post on prom so don't cry on lack pictures.

The Hussles of Life

Hello and how's your hair today? I'm awfully sorry, but I've been so busy. After I came from holiday I had three days to get sorted for school. And I've started my A Levels so I haven't had a chance to write - so here I am, and I'm planning to post once a week. I hope everyone had a great summer and really enjoyed themselves :)

Life is so busy nowadays, especially for school kids and we sadly we don't always have time for our hair. So my styles today are inspired by the busy hussle and bussle of life, styles you can do that are quick and simple, but effective...

As a lovely welcome back, I've decided to do a prize give-away. Check the tab in the menu for more details... :D

Also, I'M GETTING RABBITS so this is just even more amazing... When I get them I'll put up the pictures, but I still need to think of names.

Long Time... No See...

Hello and how's your hair today? Yeah I've arrived in Jamaica and I've been here for a week today. The internet just got sorted out and I've quite busy, going to the beach and stuff but I've decided to finally to blog. I tell you one thing though, Jamaicans don't play when comes to hair - the styles I've seen are enough to blow me away. All kinds of crazy colours and styles and especially because it's Jamaica's 50th anniversary of Independence, the styles are just crazy. And Jamaicans party. All. Night. Long.

I'm planning to take some pictures and upload them onto here, to give you a taster of what I'm talking about. I actually saw a woman with a patch of green hair in her black hair and it honestly looked like some grass. Anyway, more on that next time. Today's post is about braids :)

I think braids are the simplest yet most effective hairstyle to be invented. They keep hair out of your face, but in a stylish way, and there are so many different types and so many different ways you can style them. Here are some braids to give you some hair ideas ;)

Perfect for fringes/bangs

Just so chic ;)

One of the more complex braids - fish braid

For snazzing up your ponytails

The most well known braid in all history - The French Braid

As you all know, Jamaica did very well in the Olympics - 1,2,3 in the 200m, and the 4x 100m relay was just amazing. The atmosphere here is absolutely fantastic and everyone is fiercely patriotic - there are flags everywhere. I am thoroughly enjoying the food and am just kind of cleansing out my body. Enjoy your summer!

Get Crazy...

Hey! And how's your hair today? Sorry I haven't posted in a whole week but I've been so busy and finally the weather in England has cranked up a couple notches and it's quite hot up here. Yesterday I went to Hyde Park, to see if there are any people with amazing styles... you know I'm on it! Anyway, I finally got Microsoft Cloud so I can upload all my pics and music and stuff and not have to buy loads of SD cards :)

Anyway, so back to Hyde Park. I went there on a lovely hot day, my hay-fever didn't give me any trouble at all, there were loads of people and it was generally great. But the one thing I noticed was the lack of absolutely 'whaaahoooo look at me!!!!' styles and it made me quite disappointed. So I got 8 styles - some crazy, some quirky, and most definitely LOUD.

If anyone tries one of these styles, send me your picture and I will put them up in my next post as the Royalties Of Standing Out. I believe it's so important to be individual and not follow the crowd. If you love hairstyles like these, then you carry on and go even more crazy with your imagination!

Hello and how's your hair today? I've got some great news... I've decided to do hair tutorials! The most amazing thing about them though? They're only going to be thirty seconds long :) which means it's going to be fast and effective and you won't get bored. I've already made a promotional video for you to watch x

Also, I've decided to do PRIZE GIVE-AWAYS!!!!! Yes. More information on my next post which will be arriving in the next 20 minutes...

Fish Braids Are Real Pretty...

Hello and how's your hair today? I've had a few private thoughts, and it seems that right now, the style that's raging is the fish braid. So I've decided to take some styles off my site and show them to you for some hair inspiration, with quite a few selections of different kinds of fish braids. Enjoy!

(really cute, just a neat ponytail)
(nice juicy one)
(if your hair doesn’t go sleek like this lucky girl, then just gel your hair, or get some wet look cream)
(I love her eyes!)
(hair to see, but her braided headband is a fish braid)
(I know it looks a bit ridiculous, but it kinda looks nice)
Anyway, I sorry for not posting in a while, but I've been really busy and my Dad took us out to London as a surprise so I've been absolutely knackered. I have tried the argan oil and boy, that stuff is like liquid gold. It works like a dream on my frizzy hair and protects my hair from straighteners. I would strongly advise you to get this stuff if you have frizzy hair - but remember, everything in moderation - you don't want greasy hair!

Oils are actually good for you...

Hello everyone and how's your hair today? I love my hair right now, and I'm looking forward to using my argan oil. I know, I know, how can I not have used it yet, but seriously? I've just been so busy and haven't had the time to sit down and document my findings so I can actually report to you guys properly. I am planning on washing my hair tomorrow, and using the oil so I'm excited to see what my findings shall be!

So, today's post is on oils. Even though our hair does produce it's own oil, it sometimes needs a little... 'oomph'. The oil that our hair produces is more like a grease, then an oil, and doesn't really do much for us except make us look dirty. Oiling our hair, even if it's just a tiny few drops every two to four days, will make our scalps healthier, will train our hair to get greasy slower, and gives our hair a beautiful shine. I have a collection of oils which are fabulous for oil your hair, and making it healthy - not greasy.

Oils also dry damaged hair, and can be used whilst washing hair, to de-tangle, whilst blow drying to give a healthy shiny feel, or even when your hair is done to de-frizz. Here are my 4 favourite top oils :)

L'Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil

It's made from avocado and grape seed oil, and smells heavenly. (I actually went into House of Fraser and smelt it.) It works on all hair types, is good for damp or dry hair, and the price isn't bad either...

Gielly Green
It contains quite a lot of different oils - argan, sage and linseed, and also has vitamin C and E. It works quite well on wet hair too, but is best on dry hair, or as you're blow drying. The oil is light, but is quite heavy compared to others I've 'investigated' and if you have thin hair, it's best not to go there.
Shu Uemura - Nourishing Protective Oil
This product is great because it's light, and protects from UV, heat and combats frizz. It locks in moisture and hydrates your hair as it contains camellia oil, and is good for dry scalps too.

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue: Beauty: 10 Best: Red Online
Argan Oil

Anyone who regularly reads my blog, would most definitely know that this baby was going to come up ;) I personally believe that the Moroccan Argan Oil is one of the, if not - the - best oil product out there. As I said earlier, I cannot wait to try mine out, so I promise I'll get back to you on it. It's perfect for thinner haired people because it's light, and naturally contains vitamins and UV protection so it's perfect for beaches (even though you should still get special hair protection) and it doesn't leave them flat or greasy but bouncy and elasticated!
Moroccanoil Light: Hair Oils: Beauty: 10 Best: Red Online
I'm thinking of doing my first prize give away, probably be some argan oil... I'll think about it :) If you have dry scalp problems, or have dry, broken hair, don't delay! You must get some hair oil and make your hair glow. Your hair won't be unappreciative - trust me ;)

Hairbrushes are VIP...

Hello, and how's your hair today? Today's topic is hairbrushes! Hairbrushes are honestly one of the most important ans simple tools for beautiful hair. There is a certain myth that says 'a girl must brush her hair 100 times a day...' - obviously we now know that actually brushing your hair too often can actually damage and break your hair because of friction. However that shouldn't stop you from brushing your tresses, and making them silky smooth. I've done my research and found out about different brushes and what works best for different types of hair.

Round Hair Brush

These brushes are generally for people with thinner hair, as they provide curls and volume. If you are back combing too, these brushes are the best as they create volume without knotting your hair too much. There are the plastic ones with the little tiny balls on top, and there are the fibre-y looking ones. The fibre ones are better for people with thin hair as they are more gentle, and tend to brush smoother so your hair is left looking more bouncy and soft.
<<<>>>

Paddle Hair Brush

If you want smooth flat long hair, as opposed to hair with plenty of volume, then the paddle brush is for you. It's perfect if you want your hair to be long, straight, and sleek and smooth. Obviously you can get the ones with the no, or little balls on top, but the ones without balls aren't as gentle on your scalp and the ones with balls are harder to clean.

(I just love this brush! I'm ordering off Amazon!)

Half-Radial Hairbrush

I'd never knew what the name was for this one till I did my search, and it's one we all know. They are perfect for creating flicks at the end of your hair, and combing knotty hair. This brush is also perfect if you have thick hair because it's strong enough to take your tresses on, but also gives it a beautiful wavy texture as it doesn't smooth your hair right down. (Also a good brush for when you wake up in the morning.)
Hair Brush: Magic Wand for Your Hair
Military Hairbrush

The name basically gives the description - if you want the slicked back, polished off look, then this is the brush for you. Also if you have extreme think hair like an afro and you want to get it smoothed right down with a bit of gel, then this brush is for you.
Hair Brush: Magic Wand for Your Hair
Electric Brushes

I have a brush that has a built in flow of hot air, and you wrap your hair around it. You hold it there for a few seconds then press this button which allows the brush to spin, creating a voluminous effect and you get curls too without having to use a wand or high heat. I don't have a picture, but I'll see if I can find one, or take a picture of mine. Electric brushes are good because they also give your hair a fluffy light texture, but as always too much heat isn't good for your hair.

Anyway, so  I got my hair trimmed and my eyebrows threaded, and it hurt like heck! It all paid off though because now my brows are beautifully shaped and my hair has no split ends which means it can now grow healthier! That gives me an idea for a post... hmmm...
